Updated: Rangers C A.J. Pierzynski (strained oblique) took batting practice Thursday and could go on a short rehab assignment starting Sunday. He's eligible to come off the disabled list Tuesday.
A.J. Pierzynski's 27 home runs last year was a total that many thought would be an outlier, but even though Pierzynski has missed some time he is still on pace for 20 plus home runs this season.

A.J. Pierzynski on track for rehab on Sunday and to return to the lineup on Tuesday.
With Pierzynski's replacement, Geovanny Soto, hitting just .170 (and .071 in his last seven) the Rangers will be delighted to get A.J. back. Pierzynski is hitting .263 with four home runs this season.

The Rangers will place catcher A.J. Pierzynski on the Disabled List.
After a strong 2012 and a decent start to his 2013, Pierzynski has gotten bitten by the injury bug and it is going to slow him down for a little while. Geovany Soto is his most likely replacement, but Soto is an uninspiring fantasy option. If it's just a 2-week sting, Soto could work, but if the oblique sidelines Pierzynski for longer, you might want to seek a more stable option.

Catchers rarely have a long shelf life, as it's such a physically demanding position to play... and it's even rarer to see one produce big fantasy numbers into his mid-30's. Pierzynski did just that in 2012 and the early part of 2013, but father time always wins out in the end. This should only derail him for a couple of weeks, but it's a solid reminder that you must have a solid backup if you're going to have such an old player as your primary starter... in any position.

A.J. Pierzynski was scratched Tuesday with tight right oblique.
A.J. has had a solid start to the yea hitting .263 with four homers through 26 games, but injuries are likely to increase as we move forward with the 36 year old catcher who has somehow hit 31 homers in his last 161 games after hitting a total of 30 homers in 395 games from 2009-11.
