Santiago Casilla (R)–Pitched a scoreless 10th inning on Wednesday night giving up one hit in the outing. For now, Casilla is the clear-cut favorite to close out the ninth inning for the Giants and is a must-own if he is still available on the waiver-wire. (4/19/12)
American League
Baltimore Orioles
(CL) Jim Johnson (R)– Recorded his fifth save of the season on Tuesday night despite allowing two base runners in the bottom of the ninth inning. This was a shaky outing for Johnson, who has been great so far this season, but the fact he was able to battle through it should give his fantasy owners even more confidence in him. (4/18/12)
(SU) Matt Lindstrom (R)–Pitched 1.1 innings of relief on Monday giving up one hit while striking out one batter. Lindstrom continued his good start to the 2012 season on Monday and is now the clear-cut replacement for Jim Johnson in the ninth inning if something was to happen to him. (4/17/12)
(MR) Kevin Gregg (R)– Pitched one inning of relief on Wednesday giving up one hit and two walks in the outing. Luckily for Gregg none of the three bas runners crossed home plate, which has been a serious problem for Gregg early on this season. (4/19/12)
Boston Red Sox
(CL) Alfredo Aceves (R)–Recorded his second save of the season on Sunday after pitching a 1-2-3 ninth inning. He struck out one batter in the outing and has now out together three straight solid appearances. (4/16/12)
(SU) Franklin Morales (L)–Recorded just one out in the eighth inning before being yanked after giving up three runs on two hits and three walks. This was a terrible outing from Morales, who is expected to take over the setup role for Mark Melancon, who was demoted to Triple-A yesterday. (4/19/12)
(MR)Matt Albers (R)–Pitched 1.2 innings of relief on Wednesday giving up just one hit and one walk in the outing. He needed 25 pitches to get through the appearance and has looked like one of the better relief pitchers for the Red Sox this season. (4/19/12)
Injured–Andrew Bailey (60-Day DL)
Chicago White Sox
(CL) Hector Santiago (L)–Was charged with his first blown-save of the season on Monday after giving up two runs on two hits and one walk in the ninth inning. Both hits that he gave up were via home run, which is not something you like to see. Hopefully for his fantasy owners he will be able to bounce back from this major meltdown, if not, Matt Thornton is starting to look even better. (4/17/12)
(SU) Matt Thornton (L)– Picked up his third hold of the season on Monday after pitching a scoreless seventh inning striking out two batters. Quality relief appearances seem to be the only thing Thornton has been able to give his fantasy owners this season and in holds leagues he is one of the better options at this point. (4/17/12)
(MR) Addison Reed (R)–Pitched 0.2 innings of relief on Wednesday needing only seven pitches to get through the outing. Reed has been a solid middle reliever in the early parts of the season and has yet to give up an earned run. (4/19/12)
Cleveland Indians
(CL) Chris Perez (R)–Recorded his third save of the season on Tuesday after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He allowed two base runners, which is something you don’t want to see, but he was able to get out of trouble without allow any runs. (4/18/12)
(SU) Vinnie Pestano (R)–Picked up his second hold of the season on Tuesday night after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. It was a 1-2-3 inning for Pestano as he forced two ground ball outs while striking out one batter. (4/18/12)
(MR) Tony Sipp (L)–Pitched a scoreless eighth inning on Sunday retiring all three batters he faced in order. This was Sipp’s best outing of the season and hopefully he can build on this showing moving forward. (4/16/12)
Detroit Tigers
(CL) Jose Valverde (R)– Recorded his third save of the season on Wednesday night after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. He gave up one hit and one walk in the outing, but managed to get the job done. (4/19/12)
(SU) Joaquin Benoit (R)– Picked up his fourth hold of the season on Wednesday after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. He walked two batters, which is something you don’t want to see, but at least he was able to get out of the jam. (4/19/12)
(MR) Octavio Dotel (R)–Picked up the win on Tuesday after pitching a scoreless seventh inning giving up one hit and one walk in the outing. He needed just 11 pitches to get the job done and he has yet to give up a run this season. (4/18/12)
Kansas City Royals
(CL) Jonathan Broxton (R)–Pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation giving up one hit while striking out one batter. This was his second straight non-save appearance, and until the Royals become consistent at the plate, this is what his owners have to look forward to. (4/19/12)
(SU) Greg Holland (R)–Pitched 0.2 innings of relief on Tuesday giving up one run on three hits. On a positive note, he struck out two batters in the appearance, but the three hits were only going to lead to trouble. (4/18/12)
(MR) Aaron Crow (R)–Crow pitched a scoreless eighth inning on Wednesday striking out two of the three batters he faced. After a few rough outings to start the season Crow has seemed to settle down and is a decent pickup in deep mixed leagues that have holds as a category. (4/19/12)
Injured–Joakim Soria (out for season)
Los Angeles Angels
(CL) Jordan Walden (R)– Pitched 0.2 innings of relief on Wednesday giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Walden needed 31 pitches to get two outs and just didn’t look sharp in this non-save situation. (4/19/12)
(SU) Scott Downs (L)– Picked up his second hold of the season on Tuesday night after striking out the only batter he faced in the seventh inning. This was Downs’ second straight day with making an appearance, so if appears his ankle injury is a thing of the past. (4/18/12)
(MR) LaTroy Hawkins (R)–Pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Monday in a non-save situation giving up one walk while striking out one batter. Through the first few weeks of the season Hawkins has been perfect, but his fantasy value will be limited by his role in the Angels bullpen, which hasn’t been fully established at this point. (4/17/12)
Minnesota Twins
(CL) Matt Capps (R)– Recorded his third save of the season on Wednesday despite giving up one run on one hit while striking out one batter. The run came via a Derek Jeter home run, but at least there wasn’t anyone on base to make the game more interesting. (4/19/12)
(SU) Glen Perkins (L)–Took the loss on Sunday after failing to record an out in the eighth inning. He gave up three runs on two hits and one walk and was pulled out of the inning after throwing just 10 pitches. (4/16/12)
(MR) Brian Duensing (L)–Picked up his first hold of the season on Wednesday after pitching 1.2 innings of relief giving up three hits while not allowing a walk. This is the type of role to expect Duensing to be used in based on his history of being a starting pitcher. (4/19/12)
New York Yankees
(CL) Mariano Rivera (R)–Recorded his second save of the season on Wednesday after pitching a scoreless ninth inning giving up one hit while striking out one batter. Luckily for Rivera the Yankees have an off day on Thursday since he has pitched on three consecutive days. (4/12/12)
(SU) David Robertson (R)–Robertson pitched 0.2 innings of relief on Tuesday giving up one hit while striking out one batter. He entered the game in relief of CC Sabathia with one out and the seventh and finished the inning relatively easy. (4/18/12)
(MR) Rafael Soriano (R)–Pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation giving up one hit and one walk in the outing. Soriano has given up at least one hit and one walk in each of his last three appearances, which is something that could turn into a bad thing really quick if he doesn’t work on his control. (4/19/12)
Oakland Athletics
(CL) Grant Balfour (R)–Recorded his third save of the season on Tuesday despite giving up one run, which was a home run off the bat of Vernon Wells. He was able to hold off the other three batters he faced and force them into two ground ball outs and one fly ball out. (4/18/12)
(SU) Brian Fuentes (L)– Picked up the win on Tuesday night after pitching a scoreless seventh inning giving up one hit while striking out two batters. This was his second straight solid outing and has recorded four strikeouts in his last 2.2 innings of work. (4/18/12)
(MR) Fauntino De Los Santos (R)–Pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday night in a non-save situation giving up one walk while striking out one batter. This was his first appearance since last Saturday, so his fantasy value has been limited thus far. (4/19/12)
Injured–Joey Devine (15-Day DL)
Seattle Mariners
(CL) Brandon League (R)–Recorded his fifth save of the season on Wednesday after pitching yet another scoreless ninth inning. He retired all three batters he faced in order and continues to carry a scoreless innings streak. (4/19/12)
(SU) Tom Wilhelmsen (R)– Picked up his third hold of the season on Wednesday after pitching a scoreless eighth inning giving up one walk while striking out two batters. At this point, Wilhelmsen should be owned in all hold leagues. (4/19/12)
(MR) Lucas Luetge (L)–Pitched 0.2 innings of relief on Tuesday night giving up one hit and one walk while striking out one batter. George Sherrill on the disable list, it could mean some hold-opportunities for Luetge as the season progresses. (4/18/12)
Injured–George Sherrill (15-Day DL)
Tampa Bay Rays
(CL) Fernando Rodney (R)–Recorded his fourth save of the season on Monday after relieving starter James Shields in the ninth inning. He was only needed to get two outs and was able to get the job done despite giving up one walk. (4/17/12)
(SU) Joel Peralta (R)–Picked up his first hold of the season on Wednesday after pitching 0.2 innings of relief striking out both batters he faced. This was a much better outing from Peralta, who has been struggling as of late, so hopefully this can jumpstart him moving forward. (4/19/12)
(MR) J.P. Howell (L)–Howell pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Wednesday in a non-save situation giving up one hit while striking out two batters. This was a solid outing from Howell, who had two straight bad appearances, so hopefully this is the Howell we will see for the foreseeable future. (4/19/12)
Injured–Kyle Farnsworth (15-Day DL)
Texas Rangers
(CL) Joe Nathan (R)–Pitched in a non-save situation on Wednesday night allowing one run on one hit and one walk while striking out one batter. The run he allowed was unearned, but it is still a concern, especially with how he has started the season. (4/19/12)
(SU) Mike Adams (R)– Adams picked up his fifth hold of the season on Sunday after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. He is off to a great start to the season and at this pace he is on his way to his best season yet. (4/16/12)
(MR) Alexi Ogando (R)–Pitched one inning of relief on Wednesday retiring all three batters he faced in order. Ogando has made a good transition from starter to reliever and is a solid pick up in holds leagues. (4/19/12)
Injured–Yoshinori Tateyama (15-Day DL)
Toronto Blue Jays
(CL) Sergio Santos (R)–Pitched a scoreless ninth inning on Tuesday in a non-save situation giving up one hit while striking out one batter. This was Santos’ first appearance since returning to the team after leaving last week for the birth of his child and appears to be right back on track. (4/18/12)
(SU) Francisco Cordero (R)– Picked up his second hold of the season on Tuesday after pitching a scoreless eighth inning. However, he did give up one hit and one walk in the outing, but also struck out two batters so it evens it out. (4/18/12)
(MR) Casey Janssen (R)– Pitched one inning of relief on Saturday giving up one run on one hit. The one run came via a Wilson Betemit home run, but besides that hits Janssen looked solid. (4/15/12)
