Daisuke Matsuzaka refused to speak to reporters today, Japanese or American. But he did issue this statement through a team spokesman: "I didn't throw live BP today due to stiffness in my neck. As for my schedule going forward, I'm going to see how I feel tomorrow, meet with the coaching staff and decide at that point." Terry Francona said that Matsuzaka threw a handful of pitches before feeling pain in his neck. "It kind of spasm'd on him "We'll go kind of day to day on it," Francona said. "We'll wait and see how he shows up tomorrow and when he feels good we'll repeat what we where going to do today. I don't whether that would be tomorrow, the next day, the next day. We'll just see how he feels." The Sox don't seem to think this latest issue is related to sore back Matsuzaka arrived in camp with. "I don't think it's anything besides a stiff neck," Francona said. "I don't know that we need to be conservative as long as he's OK. But if he's not comfortable, that wouldn't be a good thing. We'll just see when it goes away." At this point, the Red Sox are't even thinking about when Matsuzaka will be ready to pitch once the regular season starts. It has been obvious for a while now that he'll be on the disabled list to start the season. The neck pain is on the right side, which means it's close to the shoulder and which means the Sox aren't going to take any chances. It could be Shutdown City again. "We just want to get him ready," Francona said. "We just want to get him out on the mound and get him going." But for Matsuzaka, that has been the hard part this spring.
Source: Boston.com| Value: | Value is based on a standard score calculation, where 0.0 is the average for your league's top players (based on your settings). As a general guideline, a value of 2.0 and above for an individual category is very good, -2.0 and below, really bad. |
| Rankings: | These Values are assigned to each Player, and they show how easy or hard it is to perform in a certain category against them. For instance, A Player may have an Ease Ranking of 2.50 for the HR Category, meaning they're very easy to hit HR's against. |
