The Boston Red Sox have been so enthralled by the early play of rookie third baseman Will Middlebrooks that team officials are discussing a plan that will enable Middlebrooks to stay in the majors when Kevin Youkilis is activated from the disabled list, CBSSports.com has learned. According to Baseball Insider Jon Heyman, the Red Sox are mulling a scenario that would keep Middlebrooks in the starting lineup and still deploy him at third base. But the plan hinges on some sacrifice from the team's veterans with Youkilis switching between first base and third, and Adrian Gonzalez, one of the league's best first basemen, playing more often in the outfield.
